Bacup & Stacksteads
Programme DescriptionWe offer a wide range of activities including art and craft, outdoor pursuits, sports, music and IT training. All our activities are planned with input from the young people involved in the project. Dance Project Following consultation with the young people 14 young girls formed a dance class tutored by a qualified dance teacher. The classes culminated in a display of original dance and costumes at Rossendale Children’s Day. The girls wanted to continue with their dance and Youth Works hopes that parents will become involved and form a committee to take ownership of the project. An application will also be made to ‘Awards for all’ to fund the dance group. Preventing neighbourhood nuisance Four young men aged 15 – 17 years received Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) banning them from the town centre of Bacup. Our programme realised that this problem could be transferred to the estates where the young men resided, therefore as a diversionary project Youth Works engaged them in developing a DJ mixing and music studio on the estate. Two of the young men have since joined the Youth Works committee. If you require any further information on the Bacup and Stacksteads programme please contact John Greenwood.
