Graffiti Project

Drugs are for mugs mural - Burnley Wood Youth Works programme [photo]Burnley Youth Works has developed a positive art project aimed at educating young people on such topics as the harmful effects of drugs and the destructive elements of crime.

The project has proved very successful with the young people and they were inspired to link their ideas with drugs work to produce a ‘Drugs are for mugs’ mural in a run-down part of the neighbourhood.

Activities progressed from January to April 2006 include :

  • Three school inclusion projects are running successfully and 26 young people are set to gain Youth Achievement Awards.

  • Anger Management sessions are up and running with good reports back from schools about the young people's progress.

  • Army outreach working in partnership with two secondary schools in Pendle and Burnley and the ACF has been a great success with a further 5 day residential planned for the end of May working with 32 young people in total.

  • Football team in Colne has thrived and won trophies for first place and second place with a Pendle sports and leisure development league tournament.
