Programme Description
The initial work to set up a Youth Works programme on the Westmill
estate in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, started in January 2006. From January
to March a series of meetings took place with potential partners and
stakeholders on the estate, for the purposes of making links and
conducting an initial feasibility study. All stakeholders were positive
about the project and expressed the need that exists in the area for the
project. The meetings between a wide variety of organisations working on
the estate allowed for the sharing of best practice, discussions on the
main issues and concerns in the area and suggestions for project ideas.
Following a successful feasibility study into the project potential
partners consulted for attendance on the steering group include :
- North Hertfordshire District Council
- North Hertfordshire Homes (housing association)
- Hertfordshire Youth Service
- Children, Schools and Families
- Westmill Community Centre
- Westmill Coffee Mill (community centre)
- Hitchin Police
- Priory School
- Oughton School
- Oughton Children’s Centre
- Hitchin Christian Centre
Appointment of Programme Manager
Groundwork Hertfordshire has successfully secured funding from a
number of partners to fund a Programme Manager to lead on development
and delivery of Youth Works Westmill. Interviews for the post of Youth
Works Manager will be conducted on 7 July.
