Programme Description

The programme is fully funded for the next year and a half supported by a number of funders including the EBM Charitable Trust and Link Foundation. Following a successful recruitment drive the Programme Manager, Matt Walsh was appointed on 4 July 2005.

Matt has been busy meeting all partnership organisations and youth work providers in the area and has presented at North Prospect Partnership Breakfast Meeting to local providers and community members.

Matt has also carried out a mapping exercise of all youth provision in the North Prospect area, which was presented to the LSG in September 2005. He reported that there has been a tangible rise in confidence from local youth and community workers since the programme was officially launched.

Youth Works North Prospect has also been involved in a number of activities in January to April 2006 in which 86 young people have participated, including the following :

  • Programme Manager Matt Walsh is leaving at end of July 2006.
  • Phoenix Project continues to be high profile regionally and nationally. Project was showcased in launch of Government Respect action plan to David Miliband (Communities Minister). Pilot programmes being evaluated by University of Plymouth Social Research and Regeneration Unit.
  • R U Fit event start of “Be Healthy” programme of activities in North Prospect, working alongside health professionals in area and city.
  • Difference & Diversity agenda to deliver education on different cultures and challenge racist attitudes. A number of events are planned for young people to explore other cultures culminating in attending the Respect Festival in October 2006.
  • Training delivery to youth work staff in North Prospect as part of Minimum Standards process.
  • Fieldwork Supervisor for Youth & Community PG Dip student concurrent placement. Involved in consultation with young people to create a community garden (Woodhey Road) and assisting in running of youth club (Swilly Youth Club) who are involved in Young Roots Heritage Lottery Bid process and will be part of Steering group process.
  • Total attendances January – April 2006: 86 young people
