Programme Description
The programme officially launched in March 2005 following funding
secured from the ERDF in January and is still in the development stages
of delivery. Tracy Blakeley and Ed Ellis have been busy developing
stronger links with the local community and young people.
- Abram Clubhouse (drop-in centre) launched – 92 young people
registered with the project. Young people have been involved in the
decorating, furnishing and layout inc. creation of canvases to hang
on walls, as well as some young people who are currently on
apprenticeships helping with minor repairs.
- Successfully recruited a high number of local community
volunteers as Volunteer Programme Assistants.
- Hosting “Moving On Moving Up” project aimed at assisting over
25’s into employment and training.
- Young people attending the project have been invited to
participate at Steering Group meetings.
- Number of staff changes including Ed Ellis leaving the project –
a new manager is currently being recruited. In the interim
Jacqueline Mutch is managing the project.
- Abram clubhouse staff, volunteers and young people have been
working closely with Groundwork Wigan & Chorley’s land department on
a land improvement project within Abram Park. A successful
application for funds to improve the local park has led to the
involvement of the clubhouse in the development of the facility by
the local young people once it is completed later this year. One of
our local young people who is also a volunteer and has just
completed a degree in sports development has been playing a lead
role in the development of a usage plan for the site.
